Introduction
This document provides guidance on setting up the CipherLab Mobile Computer 8230 for use during stock-taking procedures in the IQ system.
For demonstration and testing purposes, version 2025.8.0.1 has been used.

Important Notice

From version 2024.8.0.0 onwards, the standalone Stock Take application will be discontinued.
Its features and functionality have been merged into the IQ Retail application to provide a more streamlined and integrated process.

Please note that installation is only required when setting up a new device.

Configuration on Wi-fi scanner device
To configure the Wi-fi. 
Select the Utilities menu.



Select option 1: TCP/IP Settings.



If you have a DHCP Server, select option 3. DHCP Server.
Make sure it is enable/Enabled.



Idea
Please ensure that the IT representative or consultant is informed to bind the IP address of the stock take scanner, so it does not change in the event of a connectivity failure or power outage.

Ensure that you configure the SSID (Service Set Identifier) by selecting option 4.





To configure the Terminal IP, select option 5.

This option is only used when you want to create a static IP address.

The Host IP or Name is the server's IP address or DNS name. (This is the IP address or DNS name for the IQ Server.)
In the example below, we have used the IP address of the IQ Server. 



To configure the Telnet port, select option 7.
We have configured port 1111 by default, but you may use an alternative port if preferred.

Please ensure that the selected port is not blocked by your antivirus software or hardware firewall.



Make sure that you have configured the Telnet Port.

It is important that the telnet port is open on the firewall of the router and anti-virus software. 
Make sure to test the port with Telnet, for more information in how to use Telnet follow the link below. 
To configure the Wi-fi password, navigate to option 8, Next Page.



Followed by navigating to option 3, Security



Select option 4, WPA Menu. (Wi-fi Protected Access)
If your router or access point supports WPA, select option 2, WPA2 Setting.



In the menu WPA2 Setting, select option [1] Enable




Navigate to option 3, Passphrase. (This is your Wi-fi password.)


Warning
It is important to note that the only special characters that are supported with the device are: 
+$/*X# any other special characters won't work.
Please consider this when configuring the Wi-Fi password on your network.

How to check if it works in IQ?
If you have configured the device correctly, you can proceed to test the device in IQ. 
To test the device in IQ, navigate to Stock ---> Utilities ---> Stock Take. 

Click on the Setup Parameters button below. 

Select the option Cipherlabs Scanners Setup.



Select the Scanners radio button and click on Accept.


If you did not add a scanner, click on the Add button below. 

When you add a new scanner, ensure you fill in the IP Address and Tillnumber.
By default the system will allocate Till number 900. 

From the Scanner Model list ensure you select the model 8230.

Click on the Accept button to proceed.

To edit an existing scanner, click on the Edit button below. 

To remove a scanner, click on the Delete button. 



Once the device has been added, click on the Start New button. 


For testing purposes, select the Random Stock Take option, as it is not required to configure a bin. 


Change the Scanning Method to Cipherlabs Scanners

Click on the Accept button. 


Click on the Capture Data button. 


Please note that the Capture screen needs to be open in order for the Stock Take scanner to work.

Note:
The Capture screen must remain open for the stock take scanner to communicate with IQ.
In prior versions, it was possible to work without keeping the Capture screen open.
We have informed IQ about this and will revert once recitified.


Before we can commence with scanning on the stock take scanner, click on the Allocate Scanner button. 

You will note that the scanner will appear on the list. 

Click on the Allocate button and select the Allocated Selected.

If you have more than one device select the Allocate All button. 


The system will display the message "Confirm that you want to Allocate Scanner 192.168.0.210."

Click on the OK button. 


Once the stock take scanner has been allocated, the system will indicate it like below in the colour yellow. 



Now we need to test the scanner to check whether it can communicate with IQ. 

Click on the Telnet option 1.

Warning
Please note that the stock take scanner will run a diagnostic check.
Once completed, the display will present four options to choose from.





On the scanner select option 2 Scan Barcode and press on the Enter button

Scan the Barcode.

Once you have scanned the item it will appear on the scanner. 



Type in the Quantity in the Quan field, followed by the enter key. 



Navigate back to IQ and you will note that the scanned item will appear on the list below.
