Utilities | User and Security | Security | Multiple Factor Authentication (MFA)

Info

Starting from IQ version 2025.9.0.0, Multifactor Authentication (MFA) has been introduced to further enhance system security.

MFA adds an additional layer of protection for:

  • User logins

  • Security overrides

For the purpose of this guide, we demonstrate the setup process using the Google Authenticator application on an Android device.
Please note that there are several MFA applications available, and users may choose any preferred authenticator app compatible with IQ.

Idea

To enable this functionality, ensure that you have an MFA application installed on your phone.

For demonstration purposes, we will use the Google Authenticator app, which is available for download on the Google Play Store.

Please follow the link below if you would to use the Google Authenticator app.

How to Download and Install Google Authenticator (Android)

Open Google Play Store

On your Android phone, locate and open the Google Play Store app.

Search for Google Authenticator

In the search bar at the top, type:

Google Authenticator

Press Search.

Select the Correct App

Look for the app by Google LLC.

Ensure it has good ratings (usually 4+ stars).

Install the App

Click the Install button.

Wait for the installation to complete.

Open the App

Once installed, click Open from the Play Store, or find the app icon on your home screen or app drawer and tap it.

Set Up for the First Time

Tap Get Started.

You can either Scan a QR code or Enter a setup key to link your account (this will be done later in IQ).

To enable MFA functionality in IQ:

  1. Navigate to: Utilities → Setup → Menu (Security Options) → User and Group Maintenance.

You will notice an MFA Security button below.

  • Select this button to open the MFA configuration options.

The Authenticator 2FA Setup dialog box will appear as shown below.

  • To add a user or operation, click the Add User button.

When selected, the operator can choose a user who requires MFA.
  • Click the Accept button to proceed.

A QR Code will appear as shown below.

Open your Google Authenticator app and scan the QR Code.
To test the MFA, click on the OTP Test option.
Once the setup is confirmed on your phone, click the Save button.
Click the Accept button to proceed.

Open the Google Authenticator app as described above, then scan the QR code displayed on your screen using your Android device to enable MFA on your mobile phone.

The Settings button allows the user to configure the following options for the Authenticator:

  • Disabled – Disables MFA entirely.

  • Logon Only – Applies MFA only to user logins in IQ.

  • Login & Overrides – Applies MFA to both logins and security overrides.

The Login & Overrides option is particularly useful when a supervisor is not physically present at the store but needs to provide an override for a sale.
